The companion to the post about spider picture books, here is a round-up of books about bats.
Nightsong - by Ari Berk, illustrated by Loren Long
I don't have words for how cute this book is. Chiro, the baby bat is just the sweetest little one, ever. The illustrations are beautiful and Chiro's gentle adventure is so precious.
I highly recommend this book!!!!
I am Bat - Morag Hood
Hilarious and delicious - it shows "Bat" as not scary, but fruit loving (as many bats are!)
Bats and Little Bat (series) - Brian Lies
Bats at the Library
Bats at the Ballgame
Bats at the Beach
Bats in the Band
Little Bat in Night School
Little Bat up All Day
Brian portrays bats in human situations with humor and adorableness. The illustrations are so friendly. The first four books feature a cauldron of bats, while Little Bat is about one little bat. All of these books are funny and remind us as humans, how interesting and beautiful bats are
Good Night, Bat! Good Morning, Squirrel! - Paul Meisel
From a misunderstanding to an unlikely friendship, this book is a sweet reminder to welcome all guests.
Stellaluna - Janell Cannon
A classic picture book that shows the sweetness of bats. Interspecies friendships do happen (for real life-stories, see books like 125 True Stories of Amazing Animal Friendships, and enjoy Stellaluna's friendship with a bird family.
The Secret Life of the Little Brown Bat - Laurence Pringle, illustrated by Kate Garchinsky
Little Brown Bats are adorable; flying puppies! Full of facts, but from the fictional point of view of Otis, a little brown bat who grows from pup to a young bat, flying on his own.
Fiona the Fruit Bat - Dan Riskin, illustrated by Rachel Qiugi
A pup, named Fiona learns to use echolocation, and faces her fears as she grows. The illustrations are truly adorable.
Whether you are a fan of bats yet or not, we hope these books shed some light on the world of the only flying mammal.
